Hi Compost Guy,

so, how did the experiment continue? And are you still feeding your worms with your kitchen bokashi? Is it something you would generally recommend like that the worms really prefer the fermented food scraps to raw ones?

Hi Chris,
What I've found is that there is definitely a period of time required before the worms will start actively feeding on the material. Once it started smelling more 'earthy' and pleasant I noticed a lot more adults venturing in. I ended up adding some more in the same bin and that seemed to send the worms down again, but I'm sure they will be back up again once the aerobic microbes take hold and start getting rid of some of the nasty residuals.

This week I dumped a LOT of fermented bokashi scraps into my large outdoor worm bin and will be interested to see what happens there as well!

I'm interested to know how your worms reacted to the Bokashi. I've wondered if the acids (and potentially alcohols) resulting from the fermentation process might be a problem for them?
