It is January and here in NJ I am dreaming of what to put in the garden next year.

We compost a small bin from the kitchen, to an outside rotating composter. My question is at what time should we stop adding to this composter so that it has time to break down our lovely kitchen scraps and outdoor leaves, so that it can be incorporated into the garden bed soil in the spring?

Please reply to my e-mail address as well. Thank you.

I was wondering if you had given any thought to using bales of hay around the outside of your bins, similar to straw-bale construction. Even the smaller bales have decent insulating power and after winter you can then use the straw in the bins.
